How to help with climate change and population

Healing the planet starts on your table, your garage, and your home

Powerful storms, increased sea levels, intense heat, unexpected fires, and vicious floods are the effects of climate change that are already posing a threat to our economy, our communities, our health, and the security and future of children. But it’s important to remember that there are plenty of things individuals can contribute to because change only happens when people take action. Together we can do things to reduce emissions and pollution and engage more sustainably with the earth. Here are some effective strategies to consider

Avoid plastic bottles

It is a very small thing to start with, but bringing your mug that can be reused again and again is good for the planet. The plus point? Sometimes you can even score a slushie or a coffee discount for using your mug.

Avoid meat and dairy

Red meat has the largest environmental impact, avoiding meat and dairy products is one the biggest ways to help with climate change. Cows burp from eating processed foods and release a greenhouse called methane, second, they eat potential sources of food like soy and maize, and third, they require plenty of fertilizers, water, and land.

You don’t have to go vegan to make a difference, switch to smaller portions of meat and non-dairy alternative.

A plant-based high-fiber diet can help reduce chronic illnesses, such as heart disease, stroke cancer, and diabetes.  Fresh seasonal produce help cut down carbon emissions from transportation and preservation. They’re also a lot better for your health.

Travel smart

Instead of taking your car out for a spin, enjoy the physical and mental health benefits of walking or cycling. For longer journeys, you can opt for public transport, if you have a large, inefficient vehicle, retire it and get ahead of the curve and switch to hybrid cars or fully electric vehicles. Cars contribute to air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions that pose a serious threat to everyone.

Save water

Saving water helps reduce carbon pollution. You may ask why? It takes a lot of energy to pump heat and produce water, so the more water you save, the more energy you save.

You can make a difference by turning off the tap while brushing your teeth, taking shorter showers, and switching to water-efficient fixtures.

Plant something

Agriculture, deforestation, and other land changes contribute to global greenhouse gas emissions. We can all play our part by physically connecting with the literal earth by planting trees individually or as part of a collective. Caring for what’s grown by you helps you appreciate and motivate you to plant more.

Use energy wisely

Turning off the lights in the room when not in use, unplugging computers, TVs, and other electronic devices when not in use, swapping your gas oven for an electric stove, and slightly lowering the heating or the air condition can reduce pollution and energy consumption, and thus, their impact on the climate.

Educate yourself:

Learn about climate change and talk to your kids about it. Busykiddies.co.uk is a great resource to help empower young ones to understand pollution and climate change. Our professionals always aim to sustain wonderful levels of service delivering sessions in fun and unique ways so your child is always safe and engaged whilst learning about the world and playing.
